Overview

Izwi ("the App") is developed by Stewart Burton ("we", "us"). We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data the App collects and how it is used, on both iOS and Android.

Data We Collect

We do not collect any personal data.

The App operates entirely on your device. All content, including pronunciation audio, is bundled within the app. There is no user account requirement, no login server, and no behavioural analytics or advertising tracking.

Data Stored on Your Device

The App stores the following data locally on your device using standard iOS and Android storage mechanisms:

• Preferences: Your selected region, theme lens, appearance, and maturity filter settings
• Favourites, streaks and history: Words you have saved, your daily streak, and the words shown on previous days
• Widget data: The current daily word is written to a shared App Group container (iOS) or app-local storage (Android) so the home-screen widgets can display it
• Subscription state: Whether Izwi Pro is active is cached in the device keychain/keystore; the source of truth remains Apple or Google
• Sign in with Apple (optional, iOS): If you choose to link your account for subscription recovery, the identifier Apple returns is stored only on your device

This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to any server of ours - we don't operate one.

Third-Party Services

• Crash reporting (Sentry): If the App crashes or hits an unexpected error, an automated technical report (stack trace, device model, OS version, app version) is sent to Sentry so we can fix the problem. These reports contain no names, no email addresses, no account identifiers, and no content of what you typed or saved. Sentry's privacy policy: sentry.io/privacy
• Purchases (Apple / Google): Izwi Pro subscriptions are processed entirely by the App Store or Google Play. We never see your payment details.

Pronunciation audio is bundled with the App and plays offline - no audio service is contacted at runtime. No analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs are used.

Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, or transmit any data to third parties. The only data that leaves your device is content you explicitly choose to share (e.g., sharing a word card via WhatsApp or other apps using the system share sheet) and the technical crash reports described above.

Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The App contains no user accounts, no input fields for personal information, and no tracking.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
